Services

Consultancy The way you work is unique to you and your company. To provide the support you need we should understand the way your company works and what your goals are. By understanding your business and knowing your setup we can provide a personalised service that you can rely on.   [top]

Domain Names Peripheral Vision is a Nominet Tag Holder so we understand the process of researching & registering Domain names for your business. We can advise on suitable domain names and on the pros and cons of .co.uk and .com domains. Keeping tabs on multiple domains can be difficult - and embarrassing when it goes awry - and we can help manage this process for you

Planning A major part of our work is specifying equipment for clients. Our experience of planning and installing systems means we can make recommendations based on our knowledge of your business and estimate accurately the total costs involved.   [top]

Training Training is often ignored by Macintosh users as the software and hardware are simple to use. Whilst good Macintosh software follows Apple User Interface guidelines and operates in an easily-understood way, training is still useful. By teaching how to use software efficiently and passing on our own experience we can reduce time lost as users teach themselves or are taught by other members of staff.   [top]

Networks We all use networks in some form and faster networks are more productive. Upgrading your network is probably the most cost-effective way of increasing productivity and it benefits everyone. All installations are held together by a network - we can advise on network planning, upgrades, fault-finding & problem-solving and on cross-platform file, database and data sharing.   [top]

Support We offer IT support on an ad-hoc or contract basis. See our Support section for details.   [top]

Documentation is an excellent way of reducing ongoing support costs. Most companies have no documentation at all for their computers, networks and practices, with the result that new staff encounter the same problems again and again and every support visit takes longer than it needs to.

We can produce simple documentation of your machines, network, backup system, Internet connection, service providers, consumables and other relevant information. By recording this in a web-based format the information can be made accessible to everyone in the company.   [top]

Internet consultancy If you need advice on Internet connectivity for your company or clients, want to register domain names, setup space for websites or are planning your own website we can help. We have long experience dealing with UK Internet Service Providers and can help choose a suitable ISP for your needs.   [top]

Website consultancy We are not a web design company, but have considerable experience in web and interface design, graphics optimisation and website backend technologies. We are happy to advise and work with your staff and assist on web-based projects. Examples of our work can be seen on the following sites:
  • Bolide - Database-powered website designed & built by Peripheral Vision
  • W124 - Database-driven website designed & built by Peripheral Vision
  • Colin Vearncombe - Mailing list subscription form and mailing list
Please contact Peripheral Vision sales for more information on our website consultancy services.   [top]

Audit We start every support contract with an audit of hardware and software. See the Support section for details.   [top]

Office Moves A large proportion of our time is spent installing and configuring machines and networks, often when clients move office. This brings us into contact with architects, phone and alarm system suppliers, network and phone cabling installers, specialist removal services, security and keyholding services. Our experience of managing the process of relocating a network can help make relocation quicker and easier for you.   [top]

Database Development As long-term Filemaker Pro developers we can design & implement database systems from simple contact managers and invoicing systems through to complex linked databases. All our database development is done in Filemaker Pro, a stable cross-platform database that allows data to be shared simply across a network or via the Internet.   [top]

Equipment supply We no longer supply hardware and software on a regular basis. We may make an exception for specific solutions, such as fileserver and backup setups, but normally we would suggest clients purchase from their existing suppliers.   [top]

Email Servers We specialise in installing inhouse email servers. A local server can reduce connection costs by queuing mail for delivery and it allows fast, free internal email. Hardware and software-based servers are available and we can suggest the ideal setup for your business.   [top]

Fax Servers Although now being replaced by email, faxes are still central to some businesses. We can setup network fax sending, allowing faxing from the desktop on any machine, and incoming fax reception, storage and printing. If your business involves sending invoices, purchase orders or quotes by fax we can integrate fax sending with your Filemaker databases, allowing one-button faxing to single or multiple destinations.   [top]

File Servers Our surveys have shown that File Servers create more problems for users than any other single device. We have long experience of Macintosh and other file servers and can suggest appropriate solutions to your needs. New technologies such as Network Attached Storage are making traditional File Servers redundant in some areas and we can advise on which route to take.   [top]

Backup Systems We spend a lot of time advising on and setting up backup systems. A good backup system should be easy to manage, well documented and offer a reliable method of restoring lost files. This apparently simple task is, however, highly complicated and difficult to achieve. We can advise on planning for backup and create a solution that allows for future needs.   [top]

Email Newsletter Our free email newsletter, Apple Update, covers IT and communications from a Macintosh-centric viewpoint. It's aimed at all computer users who want to keep up-to-date with new and emerging technologies. You can see previous issues of Apple Update in our News Archive and subscribe to the Newsletter here.   [top]
