Configuring Multiple Machines
2 February 2011
Installing multiple machines can be very time-consuming. There’s a real benefit to having all your machines configured the same way – it’s easier for users and for managing software installs and updates. Hand-configuring a number of machines with exactly the same setup takes time but there are tools to make the process much quicker and more consistent
Starting with a source Mac it’s possible to create an almost-complete configuration and clone it to any number of subsequent machines. Once the target machines have the clone installed the only jobs left are to set up a user, configure the email account and install serialised software & dongles.
Configuring the source machine takes about two hours. Cloning to another Mac takes around six minutes so there is an immediate time saving from the second machine onwards.
In conjunction with Migration Assistant this offers an ideal way to update the OS on multiple machines
